Well what can we say... Venice is amazing. We decided to take a break from tours, churches and museums and just wander and enjoy the spectacle. The main tourist areas, like Piazza S. Marco, were predictably very crowded. We took advise from Rick Steves... Lol... and did not do the $120 20 minute gondola ride. But we did take a 45 minute trip on a boat down the Grand Canal...costing $10.
We walked/strolled about 6 hrs each day and except for the Piazza S Marco we didn't go down the same alley/street twice. Luckily there are no cars to have to avoid. As everyone does, we got lost many times but we had more adventures just exploring off the beaten path than staying on the busy tourist areas.
We took about a hundred photos :) but here are a few :
Sipping wine on the Grand Canal
There are hundreds of stores selling Venetian masks. They had some where you could take a class to make your own....wish I had more time I would have loved that :)
So fantastic Sue. Jaime traveled to Venice and although thought it beautiful, was so sad at all the decay.
ReplyDeleteThese Venice photos bring back great memories of my cycling trip last year. Great to see the sunny weather. Hope you tried the Italian gelato... it was amazing!
