San Remo - parte due

A large part of the reason we chose to stay in San Remo was to try something new. We heard other travellers talking about a cycling path on the old train route.  It goes for 20 kms along the water through small towns, by little pathside cafes and through tunnels....one was 1 1/2 kms long.
We were using the complimentary bikes from the place we are staying but our butts gave out way before our legs. 36 kms was it !!  A great afternoon ...

Caution :)

A cappuccino at a cafe stop before we head back

Then we decided to walk up to the old town of San Remo. Gave our butts a rest but not our legs :(

It seems all "old town"s in Italy are at the top of a hill

Seafood pasta dinner filled with shrimp, prawns, clams, mussels, and calamari. Sadly, as hard as we tried, we could only eat half :(

Some things we learned about San Remo
   - focaccia originated near here
   - on the hillsides are huge greenhouses which grow all varieties of roses and camellias
   - we thought we bought a lime but it turned out to be a mapo, which is a Sicilian fruit, harvested as the first citrus crop of the year in Sept. It is a cross between a tangerine and grapefruit, is small, quite sour and has a really odd smell. They use it to make a sweet liquor... with an original name... Mapo Mapo ....lol
