The medieval part of their history was pretty gruesome .
There were 3 main architectural eras... Renaissance, Gothic and Baroque.
The history of the Czech Republic is complicated. They have recently been controlled by Germany then Russia. After 1969 it was a Czech socialist republic and although they were considered independent they continued under socialism. The "free" Czech Republic as we know it today was formed in 1993. At that time the citizens did not know if they were going to be ruled by a Monarchy or a president until the newly elected official stepped onto the balcony declaring himself to be a democratic President.
Budweiser beer originated from an area in southern Czechoslovakia. It was brewed first in start of the 13th century and imported to the US in 1875.
That answered our question as to why we saw people drinking Bud everywhere... we thought it odd.. lol.
We did not realize how bad the flood was in June of this year. We saw an exposé and were surprised how quickly Prague recovered in just 3 months.
