Prague Blague Day 2

We did a lot of walking today... which included buying our train ticket to Vienna, no easy feat, and a 3 hr walking tour of Old Town guided by a Czech university history student. Very interesting ... overload of information :)

This is oldest working astronomical clock in the world. It is said that the creator of the mechanism had his eyes burned out so he could not create another. However he got his revenge as he had his assistant guide him back and he took out an important cog so the clock was non-functional for the next 100 years.

Absinthe is the Czech Republic drink. It tastes like licorice from anise but also contains wormwood which is said to have a hallucinogen effect.... but probably it is because it is 148 proof. It was banned from all other countries until just recently. It is readily available in all bars and stores here but the warning signs say " don't try unless you are within stumbling distance of your hotel" We saw this in action last night as the couple at the table next to us  could hardly stand after one try.
